D. João IV - Pedro Ferreira Architecture Studio
O atelier de arquitectura Pedro Ferreira Architecture Studio converteu uma casa burguesa do século XIX, no Porto, num conjunto de habitação multifamiliar. Acompanhando a dinâmica de revitalização que se instalou na baixa da cidade, esta casa centenária, antes em ruína, ganhou assim um novo fôlego, com quatro apartamentos que se distribuem pelos seus quatro pisos.
The architecture company Pedro Ferreira Architecture Studio has converted a bourgeois house of the 19th century, in Porto, to a multi-family housing set. Following the dynamics of revitalization that settled in the downtown, this century-old house before in ruin, gained a new life, with four apartments spread by its four floors.
A proposta dos arquitectos assentou no princípio simples de reabitar respeitando o carácter do edifício, com a preexistência a servir de guia a um diálogo entre o passado e o presente. Preservando os seus sistemas estrutural e construtivo, bem como a sua organização espacial, a intervenção limitou-se à introdução das infra-estruturas necessárias à nova vivência, como as cozinhas e as casas de banho.
Destaca-se a forma serena como o novo se mistura com o antigo, com a nova intervenção a diluir-se intencionalmente entre todas as anteriores. Para tal, contribuem também os materiais utilizados e os tons neutros escolhidos.
The architects’ proposal was based on the simple principle of reinhabit respecting the character of the building, with the preexistence serving as a guide for a dialogue between the past and the present. Maintaining its structural and constructive systems, as well as its spatial organization, the intervention was limited to the introduction of the required infrastructure for its new life, such as kitchens and bathrooms.
Noteworthy is the smooth way the new blends with the old, with the new intervention to merge intentionally among all the previous ones. To this also contribute the materials used and the chosen neutral tones.
