EXD'17 - Before & Beyond

Está completo o programa daquela que irá ser a última edição da Bienal EXD. A ter lugar dia 30 de setembro em Lisboa, a EXD'17 apresenta-se num formato especial retrospetivo que celebra o fim do ciclo das Bienais. Sob o tema BEFORE & BEYOND, trás para o presente e futuro os 9 temas abordados nas edições anteriores.

The lineup of what will be the last edition of the EXD Biennale is complete. Taking place on September 30th in Lisbon, the EXD'17 presents itself in a special retrospective format celebrating the end of the Biennale cycle. Under the theme BEFORE & BEYOND, the 9 topics explored by the previous editions will be transported to the present and perpetuated in the future.

O programa começa com as Conferências de Lisboa, que regressam ao Grande Auditório do CCB. Direcionadas para um público mais alargado, contam com um grupo invejável de oradores que irão cruzar distintas áreas e disciplinas como o design, arquitetura, ética, sociologia, neurociência e política.
Alice Rawsthorn, Arjun Appadurai, Eduardo Souto de Moura, Miguel Nicolelis, Philippe Starck, Stefan Sagmeister e Tyler Brûlé seguem o mote e são desafiados a trabalhar um dos temas passados, reforçando o caráter intemporal da Bienal e das questões abordadas ao longo dos anos.

It all starts with the Lisbon Conferences, returning to the Main Auditorium of the CCB. Aimed at a broader audience, these conferences count on a remarkable group of speakers who will cross diverse areas and disciplines such as design, architecture, ethics, sociology, neuroscience and politics.
Alice Rawsthorn, Arjun Appadurai, Eduardo Souto de Moura, Miguel Nicolelis, Philippe Starck, Stefan Sagmeister and Tyler Brûlé follow the motto and each one is challenged to work a theme of a previous edition, reinforcing the timeless character of the Biennale and the issues discussed over the years.

A festa continua no Museu Nacional dos Coches com o lançamento do livro EXD'99/17, uma viagem com cerca de 450 páginas através de todos os marcos importantes dos 18 anos de existência da Bienal.
Segue-se a inauguração da exposição Drawing in Stone e aqui a pedra portuguesa é rainha. Através do desenho, manual ou digital, 23 artistas revelam a sua abordagem a este material. Entre os criadores encontram-se Álvaro Siza, Carrilho da Graça, Pedro Falcão, Peter Saville, Sagmeister & Walsh, Fernando Brízio e Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec.

A EXD termina o seu ciclo com um conjunto de duas performances live de videomapping. Inside e The Illustrated Man abraçam a fachada e espaços envolventes do museu com obras audiovisuais carregadas de narrativa.

The celebration proceeds at the National Coach Museum with the release of the book EXD'99/17, a journey with about 450 pages across all the important milestones of the last 18 years of the Biennale’s existence.
Later on, follows the opening of the exhibition Drawing in Stone and here the Portuguese stone is queen. Through drawing, manual or digital, 23 artists will reveal their perspective on this material. Among them are Álvaro Siza, Carrilho da Graça, Pedro Falcão, Peter Saville, Sagmeister & Walsh, Fernando Brízio and Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec.

The EXD ends its cycle with a set of two video-mapping live performances. The museum’s facade and surrounding spaces will be embraced by Inside and The Illustrated Man, two audio-visual pieces laden with a narrative.

É por tudo isto que já sentimos saudades da EXD. A associação experimentadesign assegura que irá manter a sua atividade e o seu trabalho de investigação, e que esta ultima edição da Bienal — seguramente o evento mais relevante nas áreas do design em Portugal, irá dar espaço para o desenvolvimento de novos formatos.

For all this and more, we already miss the EXD. The experimentadesign association ensures its activity and its research work, promising that with the end of the Biennale— surely the most relevant design event in Portugal, will be room for new formats.
